Thing 9 - Sharing

This is an interesting tool and given the time I would love to use it in the Library, however at teh present time I do not have the time to sit down and learn the program. I do see this being very useful when promoting either an ongoing program or making bookmarks that highlight a particular program that has taken place in the library.I am going to work with our teen and children's staff to incorporate this into their publicity and their programs.

Thing 8 - Communication - web 2.0 style.

I love Google Talk. We use it here at the Library ti improve our communication between our different Departments as well with the Library Cooperative that we are members of. I have a My Space and a Facebook page. I use My Space to "talk" with my nieces and nephews who live in Central Florida. I use Facebook to communicate with colleagues from the Library Leadership Institute. I am still adjusting to these Social Networking sites but it is a very interesting and convenient frm of communication and it has very definite apllication to Libraries.

Thing 7 - Image generators

This would be a very valuable tool for libraries to use and I may use it as I have time to sit down and really learn the program.

Thing 5: Flickr

Flickr is awesome, I love it. My wife and I are going to set up a family account for ourselves as well as one for my mother. We are going to use flickr for library photos. This will allow us to share them with other people and have them readily available. We are creating accounts for each department as well as for the library in general.

Thing 4

Well, it has been awhile since I've posted to my blog but due to illness and a family emergency I am behind on my posts. I did the work and saved it to a thumbdrive depending on where I was but I digress. I think that RSS feeds are a great tool and they should be used by Librarians everywhere. I have added about 25 of them to my google page through the google reader. It helps me stay current with what is going on in the library world as well to track the bothe the local and the world news.

RSS Feeds

WOW! This is a really cool way to follow information in subjects and people of interest. It is much easier that constantly searching the net for this information.

Thing 3

Searching for blogs of interest can be intimidating if you do not know where to look. The information provided on the NEFLIN 23 newsletter provided some great tips on finding blogs that are of interest to me. Thank you for posting that information.

Library 2.0?

Library 2.0, I have to admit that when I first heard the term I wondered what it meant. As I have read and followed all of the talk I admit to being nervous about all of the technology and I wondered how it would affect the Library but more importantly I wondered how it would affect me and my job. I have read several articles about Library 2.0 and my perspective has started to change. I admit that at first I felt totally and completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material that was being discussed and I wondered about its application in a library setting. After reading and researching the Library 2.0 concept I admit that I am still a little bit nervous but my nervousness is being replaced by curiousity and determination. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing how these technologies are going to shape the future of libraries. I am looking forward to implementing them in my library as well as in my personal life. I must admit if someone would have told me 2-3 years ago that I would being using anything besides e-mail and my cell phone I would have thought that they had lost their mind. But as the saying goes, "live and Learn" and I have a lot of both to do .

Setting up a blog

I am not a real techie type of person but I did set up my blog. I followed the directions that were on the registration and it really wasn't difficult. I am looking forward to learning about the different technologies that are available as I participate in the 23 Things @ NEFLIN.

Monday

Well, this week is going to be an interesting one. I a in the office today and Then I will be in Tallahassee on Tuesday and Wednesday for the New Library Director's Orientation and then back to work on Thursday and Friday. While I am in Tallahassee I am going to look at an Indian Dugout Canoe that was found in our area. I am going to take some pictures and try to get an idea on the size because it will soon be on permanent display in our Library.
